Whale
oil burners typically have one or two wick tubes but come in
a variety of shapes and sizes. With some exception, typically
you will find the cork burners on the earlier blown glass lamps,
then pewter burners were used and finally brass with tin tubes
used.
Prior to
the Kerosene era, lamps collars were not standardized and individual
lamp manufacturers had their own tooling to cut thread sizes
for the lamps and burners. Pewter burnes are usually found with
course threads and brass burners have more of a fine thread.
The later brass types will fit standard #1 size kerosene collars.
Also, the early cork burners came in many sizes to accomodate
the hand blown openings and range from the smallest for single
tube sparking lamps to the larger two tube cork burners.
