This selection of pictures show various styles of chimney cleaners. As lamps were used their chimney’s would soot up and turn dark causing the light output of the lamp to reduce. To remedy this, one would attach a rag to the end of the chimney cleaner and insert it into the chimney to clean the inside. There are various styles and some would simply grip the rag while others would open up upon inserting into the chimney with the attempt of matching its contour.
Chimney cleaners are typically simple in design and shape but sometimes they can be found with a fancy twisted or decorated design used for the handle.
